Clarence Antony Nigel Hughes


Barrister at law. LL.B Honours and LL.M University College London.
Called to the Bar at the Inner Temple in the United Kingdom on the 24th November 1987 and admitted to practice in Guyana on the 24th May 1988. Spent one year attached to leading Commercial Chambers in London at 3 Essex Court, Temple London.

Specialised in Maritime law, Marine insurance , International Business Transactions and Carriage of goods by sea in post graduate degree.

Since June 1988, he has been actively engaged in general common law, Civil and Commercial practice International Telecommunications matters, and specialises in shipping and maritime law, insurance law, building and engineering law, mining law, Constitutional law, intellectual property, patent, trade mark and copyright law, public law, Constitutional law, land law, company law, human rights law , personal injury matters and negligence.

Registered Trade Mark and Patent agent.

He is a lead trial attorney, former President of the Guyana Bar Association, serves as a Board member of Habitat for Humanity (Guyana) Inc. and has served as Chairman of the Guyana Book Foundation, Vice President of the Guyana Tourism Association and various private companies.

Founder in 1992 , of award winning design Company, Deane Hughes Designs Ltd. which specialises in the export of hand painted garments to the Caribbean and the European Union.

Sharon Felicia Small, Attorney-at-Law


Graduated with a LLB degree from University of the West Indies and thereafter obtained the LEC certificate from the Hugh Wooding Law School. Ms Small was admitted to practicing in Guyana in October, 2001 and has since engaged in general common law and civil practice

Specializes in property and land law, personal injuries, insurance law, Estate law, Admiralty and commercial law.

Elected Assistant Secretary of the Guyana Association of Women lawyers for the year 2004 to 2005, Secretary of the Guyana Association of Women Lawyers for 2005 to 2006 and executive committee member of the Guyana Bar Association 2005 to 2006.

Graduated from (UWI) University of West Indies and, LLB (with honours in 1999). LEC (Hugh Wooding Law School). Admitted to practicing in Guyana in October, 2001. Has been engaged in private practice from October, 2001 to present day.

Engaged in general common law , civil and commercial practice. A part time lecturer at the University of Guyana in the area of Corporate Finance.

Jo Anna Homer, Attorney-at-Law


Graduated from the University of the West Indies in 1997 with LLB Honours and with the LEC certificate from the Hugh Wooding Law School in 1999.

After being admitted to the bar in Guyana in 1999 Ms Homer worked with the chartered accounting firm of Ram and Mc Rae in their Legal services department.

After leaving Ram and Mc Rae, Ms Homer was appointed the Legal officer/ Assistant Company Secretary for Courts Guyana Ltd.

In 2004 Ms Homer was appointed as the Attorney for the Amerindian Legal Services Centre.

While at the Amerindian Legal Services centre, Ms Homer consulted for the Government of Guyana and the World bank on the revision and re-drafting of the Amerindian Act (legislation specifically governing the Indigenous Peoples of Guyana).

Ms Homer also consulted for the Inter American Development Bank (IADB) on the Leadership Development in Amerindian Communities Project.

During the year 2006 Ms Homer was appointed Corporate Legal Officer and Assistant Company secretary for Banks DIH.

Specializes in company law, corporate compliance, property development, debt recovery, mergers and acquisitions, international business, real estate, mining and forestry.



Cathy Hughes


Catherine Andrea Hughes (Cholmondeley) is a Media Specialists with extensive knowledge of the Caribbean media and advertising environment. She is a graduate of the University of the West Indies, Jamaica having obtained a Bachelor of Arts (Hons.) degree in Mass Communications with a major in Television Production.

In 1986 she completed post graduate training and received a Diploma in Training and Development and one in Supervisory Management, from the Institute of Training and Development in Liverpool, England.

Cathy has worked in the Media in the Caribbean and internationally for over twenty years, first as a new reporter for the Caribbean News Agency and as a Television Producer with the Jamaica Information Service.

In 1987 she joined the BBC’s Radio Merseyside team as a freelance reporter and in 1989 she moved to Texas where she was responsible for the production of local news for insertion on CNN’s Headline News in College Station, Texas & Louisiana.

In 1990 Cathy designed and produced a “positive” community newscast “Homefront News” which was syndicated on cable in Texas. As a senior manager she was also responsible for staff recruitment, training and the production of TV Programming.

Cathy returned to Guyana in 1993 and is now runs her own company Videomega Productions - a state of the art digital television production facility and advertising agency. Her in-depth knowledge of the Guyana media landscape has made her Company a success in placing media, producing corporate brochures, radio and print advertisements and more. She is also Director of Ariantze Hotel Sidewalk Café and Jazz Club, a family run business.

Cathy Hughes is a vibrant motivational speaker and has presented several guest lectures for the University of Guyana, women’s and non governmental organizations. She has participated in several Women in Business conferences including the Global Forum for Women in Cairo, Egypt in 2006 and is an advocate for the positive use of the media in educating communities on national issues especially in the areas of health, education and tourism.

She is the former President of the Tourism & Hospitality Association of Guyana, THAG Guyana and is a member of the Caribbean Broadcasting Union and the Caribbean Media Corporation.
